Cody J. Scarlett (Voiceover Talent, Vocalist, & Entertainer)
Hi, my name is Cody J. Scarlett and I’m an American voiceover talent from Dandridge, TN. I have a specific niche for doing voices for animation and video games and I’ve trained in many other forms of voiceover such as commercial, narration, and e-learning. I’m also a vocalist, metal detecting enthusiast, and a man who occassionally appreciates a nice suit and tie. To me, there’s always time for adventure and professionalism. In some cases, it can be at the same time!
I started my adventure exploring the world of voiceover from the age of 15 where I voiced over video game cutscenes with a camcorder and took up small jobs for character roles in YouTube videos. It was this sense of adolescent wonder that lit a spark in me and propelled me further into learning and training in the professional world of voiceover. In my journey, I came to realize that there are people out there constantly looking for qualified voiceover talent to help them create their vision. Those people should feel comfortable working with a talent who’s friendly, negotiable, and easy to work with. Well, fortunately for them, I have all of those qualities! I’m open to communicating with my clients and listening to all perspectives and direction and would love to collaborate with them to find the best solutions to creating their vision. My purpose in my voiceover journey is to inform, entertain, and inspire much like how I was when I first started.
I’m always thrilled when a client is happy with my services and here’s a great example. One client of mine, an independent film director, was doing a surprise anniversary music video for his wife. He needed a voiceover for an important scene where the male protagonist is inspired by a motivational speaker to change his ways, dress up, and go get the girl which dramatically and emotionally concludes in the end with him walking into the door to sweep her off her feet. Well, since this was a gift, we reached a very fair negotiation and I agreed to do the few lines of dialogue for that video completely free of charge. So, I hooked up my Sennheiser MKH 416 mic, performed a few takes of the lines from a self-directed session, and delivered them no problem. When my client received the lines, he was instantly stunned by how professional the quality sounded. His exact words were “Man, when I heard the sound of your voice on that 416, it was smooth as butter to my ears!”. Needless to say, his wife wound up loving the surprise and I gained a very happy client from the whole experience.

I’m also grateful that other fellow voiceover talents feel the same way about my performances. Jason Griffith, a professional voiceover talent and actor perhaps best known for his former role as the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog had wonderful things to say when I questioned him about my early demos. He gave me some constructive advice on commercial voiceover delivery which I’ve since used to work on and increase my range and offered some of his own compliments on my animation and character demo. Jason’s exact words to me were: “Your character demo is off the hook! You’ve got a great sound, you’ve nailed those characters. All of your stuff sounds great, your production quality sounds awesome, your voice sounds awesome…”. It means a lot to me that a working voiceover professional with such a reputation in the industry thinks so highly of my voice and I would love to deliver that quality and professionalism to each and every one of my clients.

So, who am I? Well, I’m just simply a guy who loves to entertain, inform, and inspire with my voice. I’m a guy who started with a simple passion and have grown and continue to grow as a professional voiceover talent. For potential clients, I hope to be the guy that saves them time, money, and frustration working with someone who’s less qualified. I have a little background in theater, hours of professional voiceover training from Hugh Edwards & Peter Dickson from Gravy for the Brain, and I’m planning on advancing my training and coaching further at Edge Studio in New York. I’m charismatic, relatable, versatile, and dedicated to bringing the best I can for my clients.
